MONICA: SHE’S #1!
TO MONICA DRAKE: I really enjoyed your article What Would Your Parents Think? I found it to be an interesting study in the confluence of self-expression, sexuality, and family relationships. Your story captured the essence of three very diverse artists, and exposed some issues that many people probably wouldn’t even consider. Thanks for the recommendation.

RADIOHEAD RULES!
TO KATIA DUNN: I was appalled to read of your feelings regarding Radiohead. Thom Yorke is not “calling” you. Mr. Yorke would never choose to subject his frail self to such an obnoxious persona, ghastly filth, or lack of intelligence. I do not regret to inform you that Thom Yorke, though barely five feet tall, is far over your head and the matted bird’s nest that sits upon it. The sight of your Radiohead blurb and your claim to possess some higher understanding of their music makes me want to vomit.

DAN SAVAGE: GO WITH WHAT YOU KNOW!
TO THE EDITOR: I was wondering if anyone knew the last time Al Gore
voted pro-choice for women’s rights? In fact, as a right-wing Christian, he
is actually pro-life and stands against abortion when it’s time to vote on it.
Also, during the recent debates, he said he DOES NOT SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE!!! So anyway, I was wondering how this means he supports a woman’s right to choose, and also how this means he stands up for homosexuals?
Please only let Dan Savage talk about things you don’t need to be well-read to discuss. You know, like SEX. It’s obviously the only thing he knows anything about.

I HEART NADER!
TO THE EDITOR:
[Re: “Nader Baiting,” Savage Love, Oct 12] Savage would have us believe that Gore represents the lesser of the two evils, as apparently his election will not have the negative effects upon “women, gays and lesbians, the environment, the Supreme Court, and the poor” that Bush’s would. Perhaps Savage can point out some of Gore’s stellar achievements in helping these people and issues.
Ralph Nader stands as an alternative to catering to and reforming evil. He stands for getting rid of it. A vote for Ralph is a vote for Ralph, and in a democracy, your vote is your vote: not Gore’s, not Bush’s, not Nader’s, not mine, and not Dan Savage’s. People can do a lot worse, both in this country and outside its borders, and considering Gore’s track record with the Clinton administration, they will if he becomes President.
I will cast my vote for Ralph Nader. The many people suffering in this country can only do worse if the policies of either Gore or Bush, both corporate financed candidates of the powerful and wealthy class, are implemented. Evil is evil, whether lesser or greater. Adults truly committed to equality and justice understand that evil should be destroyed, not bargained with.

GEORGE W: YOU WANT IT, YOU GOT IT!
MR. SAVAGE: First, you said to vote for Bush because he couldn’t possibly
pose a threat in the general election. Now that he has become a threat, you’re
terrified that the man you helped nominate will win. You, Dan Savage, actually
cast your vote for George in the primary and you instructed your readers
to do the same. Now you are attacking those who vote according to their convictions.
Please, leave high-stakes political intrigue to the pundits, and the personal
attacks to the candidates. If Bush wins, you have yourself to blame.
