I tried to go read this article about bikes bikes bikes on the Portland Tribune site and instead received this threatening notice:

“Of the 178 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 114 pages resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2010-09-16, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2010-09-16.”

Ack! The trouble you get in for trying to read a damn paper.

Sarah Shay Mirk reported on transportation, sex and gender issues, and politics at the Mercury from 2008-2013. They have gone on to make many things, including countless comics and several books.

  1. I’ve wondered about that. PortlandTribune.com tends to run their own ads, though – I always have to add custom filters to AdBlock Plus to keep from going blind from their flashing shitass internal ads.

Do you get the same alert when you visit that page with a browser with AdBlock Plus enabled?
