CINEPHILES! TIGHTEN YOUR MONOCLES! Here are my favorite movies that played in Portland in 2014. It was an excellent year for film—while most critics crank out a top 10, I had a hard time whittling it down to 15. Each day I’ll highlight one of those, going alphabetically, because fuck that ranking nonsense.

Obvious Child
dir. Gillian Robespierre
Now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD
From the Mercury‘s review: “A fresh, funny little romcom: warm, creatively vulgar, and unapologetic in covering new ground.”
Alison’s review puts it better than I could. All I’ll add is that if Gillian Robespierre and Jenny Slate don’t keep making movies together, it would be an international tragedy.

If you are going alphabetically, is Obvious Child at the end of your alphabetical list? Does that mean that I can be certain Snowpiercer is not on it, but Boyhood is? Or is it Child, Obvious, in which case it’s the other way around? Jesus, Erik, are you trying to kill me with this? Because my heart attack is so going to be your fault.
