Goddamn, I love Wrath of Khan. We got really late notice on this (which is why it isn’t in the paper this week), but the best Star Trek movie ever is playing tonight, for free, as part of Geek Movie Night at Backspace/Old Town Computers (115 NW 5th). According to Tyler at Old Town Computers, it’s an all-ages event with a beer garden, and here’s what’ll go down:

8:00: Free pub style trivia with prizes (teams of up to 5 people). The theme this month is “Space: The Final Frontier”

9:00: Movie

10:30: (or whenever the movie is done): Announce trivia winners

Beer: Throughout

Man, I would so be there if it weren’t for The Great Gatsby. As I’ve said many times before, having to choose between Ricardo Montalban and F. Scott Fitzgerald is exactly the sort of Sophie’s choice situation that no one should ever be put in.

With honor and distinction, Erik Henriksen served as the executive editor of the Portland Mercury from 2004 to 2020. He can now be found at henriksenactual.com.

  1. God damn it! This is the second time in the last year that I’ve missed a Khaaaaaaaaan! showing because the people throwin’ down the event are late on the promotion side. Bastards.

  2. 25 years after perhaps the best cry for vengence in cinematic history, not to mention the hands-down best toupee EVER (I’ve often thought of shaving my head simply so I could wear the Shatner 3000), William Shatner is still bringing the noise as Denny Crane.

Bill, you are the shit. Plain and simple.
