The 32nd Annual Portland International Film Festival is gearing up to start next week, when it’ll kick off with a fancy-pants, 3-D, red-carpet, already-sold-out premiere of the eagerly anticipated, locally produced Coraline.
Here at Mercury HQ, we’ve already seen a few of this year’s PIFF films, and in the coming days and weeks, we’ll be seeing a shit-ton more—stay tuned for the sharpest, funnest, and most thorough coverage of the fest that you’ll find anywhere in town. While PIFF’s official site has a whole lot of dry synopses of this year’s selections, I’d recommend hitting PDXFilm, a site that has obsessively hunted down the trailers for almost everything playing at PIFF this year, from Japan’s All Around Us to the United States’ Youssou Ndour: I Bring What I Love. (Okay, so when I started writing that last sentence, I was hoping there’d be a film title starting with “Z” this year, but I guess I’ll have to make do with one starting with “Y.”)
Sadly, you can’t watch individual trailers—each country’s films have been lumped together into one streaming, low-res video—but if you’re curious about getting a better look at what will be at PIFF this year, this is still a fantastic way to do it.
