What’s up, Mercury readers? I’m back to get you all up-to-date with what’s going on in the Portland rap/hip-hop world, where there’s always more than enough to talk about. Here are three local events and three music releases worth diving into.

T.$poon, “Mud”

Northeast Portland legend T.$poon has been putting out great music for about a decade, and he stays on trend with “Mud,” an Auto-Tune-assisted, laid-back street anthem featuring Destodubb. Complete with a cameo-filled video shot and directed by Mike Tate in conjunction with No Jumper, โ€œMudโ€ makes for a catchy summer bop.

Swiggle Mandela, Figure 8 feat. Cool Nutz, โ€œBusy Busy Busyโ€

Portland-based rapper Swiggle Mandela and Detroit native Figure 8 have been hard at work on their upcoming album, Fig & Swig Too, and decided to drop the bouncy track โ€œBusy Busy Busyโ€ featuring Cool Nutz. The J. Hixson-produced single got a video treatment as well, notably highlighting the Black-owned Rip City Tacos food cart. (Prominence w/Swiggle Mandela & Mic Capes, La Familia Gang Music, K Prynce, Lil Swag, Timmi Hendrixxx: Thurs June 20, Bit House Saloon, 727 SE Grand, $15-20)
