Word on the street is that the Mt. Tabor Legacy will be shutting their doors on the 17th of July. We put a line out to the venue and if/when we hear back, we’ll let you know.
***UPDATE***
We just spoke to Kate Atkins at Mt. Tabor Legacy and she reports that the club is not closing its doors, but is “actively seeking a buyer” at the present time. We’ll keep you updated on the status of the club which has changed hands more than a few times over these past couple years.

I wish it would close it’s doors. They really should be able to book a decent midlevel act regularly but can’t manage that. I think it’s a better spot than Berbati’s for sure.
Bummer, dude. Now where am I going to score my pot?
The shows I’ve seen advertised lately are such crap– you know, some metal-reggae-stoner rock shit with flyers featuring enough tasteless typefaces to make Photoshop give up and uninstall itself. Also note the pathetic scenes occasionally captured by PDX Pipeline (who must be friends with the current owners): essentially “we had an event! yeah, ten people showed up, but one of them was a vaguely attractive girl in a skirt!!! it was awesome!!!!!!!”
Whoever goes in there needs to close the main hall during the week, and just use it for weekends and special events. The sideshow lounge part appears that it can run on a small enough staff to stay afloat, but running music there 7 nights a week is just going to it drag down.
If things haven’t changed since it was Sabala’s, they also need to fix the backstage / dressing room setup in order to attract mid-level acts. Maybe taking out the sunken game area and remodeling it as an enclosed green room.
After that you still have to find away to quickly build your clientele. That going to be hard since the place is so far away from other music venues. My bet is unless some established promoter (like Monqui, or Thrasher) takes on the place, the next owner will quickly be trying to get out from under it too.
I haven’t been to a show there in at least a year and it’s the closest venue to my home.
I don’t know if it’s just not getting shows that attract me or my crew, but, I don’t know anyone that goes there on a regular basis for shows.
Is the owner still booking it? If she is she was easily pushing 50 and by the looks of her her favorite band is probably Hawkwind. That would explain even the lack of ability to book a decent local band.
They also measure their shots they pour into your drinks and then charge you $5.00 for their shitty well.
If Sabala couldn’t make it there I don’t know who could. It seemed like he had the right idea and then it just went to shit by the time it was done.
@blah: it’s close to The Hawthorne Theater, which manages to get some pretty good acts itself. I’ve never heard of anything halfway interesting playing at the Legacy though.
@roguespierre’s gentrifying taco dip ointment :
I am not actually friends with the owners, and have never met them as far as I know. The events that have been posted in the last year on PDX Pipeline (as I remember) are the Trike Racing (did meet the guy who does this at the Bonfire Lounge and thought it was interesting), the comedy festival (Dude, Patton Oswald), and the Barfly awards.
Anyway, I think those were all pretty good events….and I didn’t see the trike racing, but the barfly awards and comedy festival had huge crowds.

I was there Sat night to see the lounge acts. There was a teen rave going on in the main hall. My girlfriend told me a teenage girl was being gang raped in the front hallway. There were wasted teenage girls in their panties running the streets and wasted boys chasing after them. Three 15 year old girls showed me their tits as I was coming in from outside. NO security whatsoever! God only knows what was going on in that dark main room. The next time they have one of these they can expect a visit from the police because I’m calling them tomorrow. These are children for god’s sake. I’m appalled.
