You guys know me—I love a cougar story. And there are no better cougar stories than those that involve secret incursions into urban zoos and koala murder. Hollywood does it again!

Cool cool cool. Ben Carson’s endorsed Donald Trump.

And in doing so? Carson will be placing himself in league with a trade policy that, as the NYT reports, is just a repackaged version of outmoded protectionism economists ditched as unhelpful centuries ago. Not that that surprises you at this stage in the game, of course.

Speaking of Trump: 13 bald eagles found dead in Maryland last month were probably slain by humans. It’s that kind of election year.

Portland is sort of a festering snake nest of public plans—plans curling and twisting into other plans while giving birth to even more writhing, process-filled plans. The mammoth Central City Plan update that city officials began five years ago is itself really an amalgamation of three huge plans. And it’s also just a part of the overarching Comprehensive Plan. See? Plans on plans on plans. But it’s super important, and the Tribune has done a good job explaining why.

Law enforcement officials in Eastern Oregon have released hundreds of pages of documents chronicling their investigation into the shooting death of Oregon occupier LaVoy Finicum. The O’s posted them to its site, if you want to peruse.

One thing those documents reveal: Police changed plans for where to apprehend Finicum and company, after realizing the sheriff of Grant County was a sympathizer who could make the affair difficult.

The Oregon Supreme Court issued a ruling Thursday that some believe will make it harder to stick it to bars who over-serve drunk drivers. The new standard, apparently, is that bars will have had to foresee getting someone blind drunk will lead them to hurt or maim.

Man, Lake Oswego’s Aequitas Capital Management was really screwing over the clients who entrusted millions to the investment firm. At least, if you believe federal securities investigators.

You know how there will occasionally be some keening about the dominance of the Democratic party in Oregon, and how we might have a more vital or spirited democracy if there were more parity betwixt the major parties? North Carolina begs to differ. It is a horror show of dirty gerrymandering tricks and racist voter registration laws.

A former confidante of Vladimir Putin turned up dead in Washington DC in November, after what Russian state media reported was a heart attack. Turns out it was blows to the head and body that did him in. Intrigue!

Your weekend surprise? Rain. SO MUCH RAIN.
