The folks in the photo above probably just got their wish today.
Last night they took a Pedalpalooza ride to protest fast-tracking the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a Pacific Rim free trade agreement that President Obama is trying to push through Congress.
Today, the House of Representatives, in a 302-126 vote, torpedoed Obama’s hopes by rejecting multiple measures that would have provided financial aid to displaced workers, but would have also granted Obama the authority to fast-track TPP. (Whaaaaaa? I know, it’s weird.)
“Fast Track for the TPP is dead for today! This is a great victory, but there is a lot more work to come,” says ride organizer Elizabeth Swager.
(Reporter’s note for commenters: Yes, I realize the two are not related, but yay! for grassroots organizations … and for Pedalpalooza!)
