After a triptych of events in Seattle yesterday (one of them a small fund-raiser, the other thrown akimbo by Black Lives Matter protesters), Bernie Sanders makes his way down I-5 today.
Portland’s got something Seattle very pointedly does not—an NBA arena—and we’re putting it to use because of rampant speculation more than 15,000 people will show. Will the event be targeted by the activists who’ve prodded Sanders to take stronger positions on racial inequality in recent months? Perhaps, but it’s doubtful anyone unwelcome would be permitted to storm the stage in the well-controlled confines of Moda.
Like it or hate it (or believe it to be a astroturf front plotted by establishment types who fear the Independent senator from Vermont) it looks like the protests that have twice overtaken Sanders events have had at least some effect. The Stranger notes Sanders’ campaign added a “Racial Justice” page to its website after yesterday’s dust up.
Anyway: If you’re interested in attending the rally, you know where the Moda Center is (bike or take TriMet there). Doors open at 6 pm, and the event’s scheduled at 7. You can RSVP at the campaign website or just show.

Mammoth Bernie Sanders? He’s not *that* old, you know
But what does Hart think about this?
Seattle has Key Arena. The NBA Supersonics played there, as do the current Seattle WNBA team.
