When leaders at the Northwest Oregon Labor Council voted to allow the Portland police union to join their ranks, it prompted a sizable controversy among labor and police accountability advocates. The council will now take a wider vote on the issue at the end of the month.

Those who attended Portland's “Hands Off” rally against the Trump administration on April 5 showed a range of specific, and sometimes conflicting, motivations and protest philosophies. Still, the well-attended event was largely seen as a success for mobilization against Trump and his collaborators.
• Portlanders Mourn the Loss of Dan Handelman, Pioneer of Police Oversight
Dan Handelman, an ardent police watchdog and co-founder of Portland Copwatch, died Wednesday. Handelman was best known for his decades of commitment to police oversight and accountability, but his legacy is also steeped in the dogged pursuit of social justice.

• Deadline Approaches to Apply for New Police Accountability Board
You have until April 14 to apply for a position on the new Community Board for Police Accountability. The 21-member civilian-led oversight board will review police conduct and use of force investigations, and has authority to impose discipline, if deemed appropriate.
