Good Morning, Portland! 7-11’s annual free Slurpee day may be nothing but a memory now, but fear not: The Mercury’s own Summer of Slushies lives on. And unlike a certain convenience store that I literally just named in the previous sentence, our frozen treats have alcohol in them.

Here are the headlines.

Consequences Still Happen, Sometimes (Part 1):

Consequences Still Happen, Sometimes (Part 2): R. Kelly has been arrested once again for additional sex crime charges. He was reportedly walking his dog in Chicago when the arrest happened—and, um, can someone please steal that dog and raise it as their own?

Fuck ICE: This weekend is expected to see a rash of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids across the country. Here’s some info on how you can stay safe if you’re undocumented—or how you can help undocumented people if you have the privilege of citizenship.

Quakin’: Is there such a thing as earthquake season? No, there’s not, but I’m sure the news of some minor earthquakes in Washington state this morning will prompt more speculation of when the Big One—the ultimate disruptive Portland transplant, when you think about it—will hit us.

Reclaiming Our Time: Remember a few weeks ago, when all anyone here could talk about was the possible whereabouts of 11 middle-aged white people? Well, it appears the chickens have come home to roost (am I using that phrase right?): Oregon senate leaders have slapped those Republicans with $3,500 invoices for missing work.

Dark: A Lake Oswego man has been sentenced to 87 months in federal prison for dealing drugs laced with fentanyl, a potentially deadly synthetic opioid. The man was reportedly “a prolific darknet narcotics vendor,” and his drugs caused a fatal overdose in Wisconsin in 2017.

Checking in on Seattle: Seattle faces a lot of the same issues as Portland these days: rising inequality, a housing shortage, and questions of how to best deal with houseless people who struggle with mental illness or addiction. A “hands-off” approach in Seattle is now facing backlash from residents.

History Lesson: “I doubt that anyone who isn’t a film nerd will enjoy Be Natural, but when it comes to Guy-Blaché herself? She seems like a total baller.”

Where Is My Soccer Contract Tho???
