It’s official: After years of outcry, acrimony, and protest the Mt. Tabor reservoirs have ceased delivering water to Portland homes. They’ll stay on as showpieces.

Today in recent victims: A 21-year-old man murdered in a drive-by in East Portland on Wednesday, had been working hard to improve his life after a recent conviction, his family says.

And the 38-year-old man who was run down on his bike by an apparently intoxicated driver had just moved to Portland a couple weeks ago, and was biking home from his first day on the job.

That crash has spurred the Trib to look at Portland’s progress around Vision Zero, the policy city leaders adopted last year with a goal of eliminating traffic deaths. So far, it’s still largely just a lot of hopeful words.
