Good Morning Portland! It’s been a hellish week for headlines, so thank god it’s Fridayโ€”and a sunny one at that. The weekend will have temperatures in the mid to high 70s with a very slight chance of rain. Let’s get to the news!

Yesterday afternoon, a shooter entered the building of the Capital-Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland. He shot and killed five while reporters hid under their desks.

The shooter, Jarrod Ramos, had a long-standing feud with the paper over its coverage of his criminal harassment charges. The brave reporters of the Capital-Gazette have been covering their own catastrophe. You can find biographies of the victims on the Capital-Gazette’s homepage: Rob Hiaasen, John McNamara, Wendi Winters, Gerald Fischman, and Rebecca Smith.

Two days before the shooting, alt-right asshole Milo Yiannopolis told two different reporters that he can’t wait for “vigilante squads to start gunning journalists down,โ€ leading many to blame him for the shooting on social media. Yiannopolis has since said the messages were a joke and has blamed the reporters who publicized the message for the shooting. The political right blamed Maxine Waters for the deaths.

Rumor has it: Trump wants to leave the World Trade Organization. That’s the international group that regulates trade disputesโ€”the kinds of disputes that Trump throws around like candy. Is he just trying to set a record for the highest number of important agreements and organizations a president has ever abandoned during a term? Pulling out of the WTO would probably lead to an economic crisis by casting trillions of dollars of trade into doubt.

The announcement of Anthony Kennedy‘s retirement from the Supreme Court has led to a major freak-out at the capitalโ€”Democrats are demanding that consideration of Trump’s nominee be put on hold until after the electionโ€”just like what happened to Barrack Obama’s nominee in 2016. If those arguments fail (which they probably will, since Democrats are in the minority in Congress), pro-choice advocates are relying on two Republican women to save Roe v. Wade.

Meanwhile, hundreds of protesters have been arrested across the country while protesting Trump’s immigration policiesโ€”including seven yesterday at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) occupation in Portland , which federal agents swept in the early hours of that morning. 575 women were arrested at one demonstration in Washington DC. Maybe if enough demonstrators get arrested, they won’t have any space left for imprisonment of immigrants and refugees.

The European Union has reached a deal on its own immigration crisisโ€”creating “joint processing sites” to keep immigrants contained while the receiving countries consider asylum claims. They also plan to pay Turkey, Morocco, and other North African states to keep refugees within their borders.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has filed a lawsuit against a US sex trafficking law, claiming it could hinder attempts to help trafficking victims. The Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, critics say, cracks down on consenting adult sex workers while doing little to prevent trafficking.

Portland State University Police fatally shot a person at a SW sports barโ€”the Cheerful Tortoiseโ€”at 1:30 am this morning. Portland Police Bureau (PPB) is investigating the shooting.
Following an investigation by the Oregonian which revealed that 58 percent of PPB’s arrests are of the homeless, the ACLU is demanding that the mayor investigate whether the homeless are profiled by police in Portland.

Oregon is notoriously bad about vaccinations, and some childcare facilities are truly the worst. Here are a bunch of facilities in Oregon where you should definitely not place your immunocompromised kids.

Greg Walden, Oregon’s only Republican Congressman, continues to be a twatโ€”asking that President Trump pardon two rancher arsonists, Steven and Dwight Hammond, who were at the center of the Malheur Occupation in 2016. The Hammonds intentionally burned 139 acres of federal land in 2001, and were convicted in 2012.

That’s all folks! I hope you have an excellent weekend. And if you’re going to a barbecue, why not break out the Worcestershire sauce? If you can pronounce it, that is.
