It wasn’t a “school shooting” of the stripe Americans have come, sadly, to expect. But it is nonetheless terrifying that four students on lunch break were shot outside North Portland’s Rosemary Anderson High School yesterday, in what Portland police say could be a gang-related attack. Three of the victims will be fine, cops say, but a 16-year-old girl was in critical condition last night.

Cops arrested a 22-year-old man, seized a handgun, and executed a search warrant early this morning in connection with the shooting.

Gov. John Kitzhaber’s office, beset by records requests about First Lady Cylvia Hayes’ private consulting activity, is releasing documents at a fairly glacial pace. But they keep revealing new, damning revelations that Hayes may have improperly used public resources on her own pursuits. Now the governor’s office, which previously has said it took a proactive approach to this situation, is SHOCKED that Hayes made a public employee book her flights and carry out other tasks related to her consulting.

You’re on notice, clandestine pilots of the Uber PDX empire: The city’s furious cab drivers are always watching, and WILL report you to your insurer.

A Portland jury slapped the state’s Department of Human Services with a massive penalty yesterday, after hearing of how terribly the agency failed two girls molested and beaten by their foster mother. The $4.1 million judgment beats the next-highest jury finding against DHS by more than a quarter-million dollars.

A 21-year-old who killed a Portland police dog and shot an officer after a botched burglary in April got 30 years in prison yesterday, as police brass looked on.

Damn it, teens. Don’t jump toward the Max train. We’ve been over this.

US Senators are at work today, after failing to find agreement on a massive spending bill, and you can bet they’re all seething.

Amid the rectal feeding, amid the near drownings and the breaking of grown adults until they behaved like dogs. Amid all this, let us not forget the dozens of people the CIA wrongly imprisoned in the dark days after September 11— the men who we acknowledge had no reason to be held, and were subjected to this stuff anyway. The conduct is terrible, regardless, but this merits a special outrage.

Remember how Portland used have a company called Alta Bicycle Share? And how that company won a contract to spread the fun and utility of bike share to our continent’s greatest metropolis? It didn’t do a very good job. But hey, at least New Yorkers GOT bike share.
