GOOD MORNING, BLOGTOWN! So really I’d better scurry. (Beautiful, please don’t hurry.) Maybe just a half a drink more. (Put some records on while I pour.) LET’S GO TO PRESS.

The Uber wars continue! According to the city, Uber drivers have been fined for using the service, though Uber spokespeople have sworn to pay any fines that drivers may incur. Meanwhile taxi companies are still screaming “foul.” (I kind of hate everyone involved in this.)

But Portland’s not the only place to take a hard line on Uber, New Delhi has banned the online car service after one of its drivers was arrested for raping a customer.

REESE WITHERSPOON ALERT! Reese and co-star Laura Dern are scheduled to appear at Cinema 21 today for the invitation-only premiere of Wild. (All together now… SQUEEEEE!)

Portland police are seeking competitive bids for cop body cameras—unfortunately, no one’s making a move to fix the broken grand jury system. (So maybe save your money, guys?)

A large and peaceful #Ferguson/#Garner protest marched downtown on Saturday, even entering the Pioneer Place Mall. For a blow-by-blow, check out the tweets of Mercurions @dirquez and @alex_zee.

Protests in California weren’t so peaceful.

In sport, our Portland Timbers have signed Colombian winger Dairon Asprilla. In a related story, the rock group Winger will be touring Brazil. So that’s a pretty good trade.

On Saturday a special forces rescue mission in Yemen led to the captors killing two hostages, one American, one South African.

The CIA is quietly crapping their pants over tomorrow’s release of the agency’s “torture report” which is expected to prove they were a lot more “torture-y” than they’ve previously admitted.

Canada goes into a mild panic after a radical Canadian Islamic State member releases a video demanding other Canadian Muslims to attack their own country.

Cereal lovers of the ’90s rejoice: French Toast Crunch is back in the stores!!!! (!!!!) !!!!!

Now here’s what’s going on in your neck of the woods: Cloudy and mild today, wet and mild through Thursday.

And finally, among other #Ferguson/#Garner related satire, Saturday Night Live takes a poke at the famous “Portland Hug” photo during their show this weekend. (And frankly, the joke’s pretty good.) Jump to the 3:50 mark to see it.

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)
