Oh man, you guys. A dicey situation in Gov. John Kitzhaber’s office got so much dicier yesterday, with a fresh release of public documents. Pretty bad: It appears the governor fired his chief spokeswoman in part because she openly questioned the role First Lady Cylvia Hayes had in the administration.

Much worse: Hayes was being paid by outside groups to push programs and, once those programs had been successfully implemented, overseeing them for the state. It’s one of the most damning findings of this whole fiasco, to date, and it’s even got one of those influence-seeking companies wringing its hands.

The Yamhill Valley News-Register has seen enough. Its editorial board, like the Oregonian‘s has called for Kitzhaber’s resignation.

There is some good news for Kitzhaber, however. At least two recall petitions against him can’t proceed for, like, four months.

BUT: We’re also seeing incrementally stronger language about the situation from Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum, who has the authority to launch an investigation. Who knows what’ll happen next?

The O says state officials are well aware a lot of school buses are spewing cancer. But, unlike some of our neighbors, Oregon’s dragging its feet on fixing the problem.

And here’s a clutch of stories about how homelessness, more and more, isn’t just a center city thing. It’s all over Portland’s suburbs, too.

Sure, yes, body cameras for Portland police. Let’s just make sure we’ve got the millions it might cost to store all that footage.

Should Western nations arm Ukraine in the ongoing war with Russian-backed separatists? German Chancellor Angele Merkel says definitely not. Some folks in the US and Britain say absolutely.

The New York courts formally recognize what we common folk already knew: It’s fine if Spiderman wants to punch the occasional police officer.

Today’s sunset: 5:26. Gonna rain. Gonna rain all weekend.

Thank God for experts like Alan, is all I can say.

One reply on “Good Morning, News: Uh, About that Governor of Yours, Oregon”

  1. Once upon a time, the United States and Russia, used to respect each other’s spheres of influence. What would John Kitzhaber do? How can you question the actions of a Governor who believes that marriages are happy? Well, one good thing, if the US invades Ukraine, then Portlanders won’t have to wait around for the overdue 9.2.
