Right on schedule (one), here comes the sober reminder about the weird jurisprudential conflict hanging over Oregon’s decision to free itself from marijuana prohibition. The feds, led in our state by US Attorney Amanda Marshall, will be carefully watching how this all goes—looking especially to make sure legal pot doesn’t wind up helping the underground market it’s supposed to slay.

It’s surprisingly not strange to type the words “4chan murder suspect.” After yesterday’s hullabaloo over an accused killer who fled to Oregon, chased by cops, police apparently found the fellow, suspected in a gory slaying, hiding at a Wilsonville Trimet station.

This fall’s city budget surplus, coming after a year of growing revenue, is just the latest in an ongoing swell of new cash for city hall. The city could have an additional $15 million to spend next year. That’s good news. Really. Even if it becomes a foil in the fight for new transportation revenue.

The arsonist who burned up Pal’s Shanty last year, leading to its official demise and sale this fall, now says he’s sorry. He was a disgruntled employee who set fire to the place, and himself, while trying to steal an ATM.

Been riding your bike up N Williams, with it’s spiffy new left-hand bike lane? Still hate all those slowpoke assholes who get in your way and refuse to wear spandex and pedal at 22 mph through crowds? Don’t pass them on the left anymore, the city says. Pass on the right.

Speaking of sorry… Sorry, Democrats! While you were feeling all superior and confident in your 2012 voter-turnout data wizardry saving your asses this year, too, the Republicans were out reverse-engineering it. And eventually doing it much better.

The GOP’s seizing of the Senate, for what it’s worth, has brought to light the deep, and deeply private antipathy, that’s been seething between President Obama and the chamber’s lame-duck Democratic leadership.

China’s totally showing off. Pricked by some modest criticism that it wasn’t doing enough to help solve West Africa’s Ebola crisis, Beijing’s not just sending some doctors and scientists over. It’s building an entire freaking Ebola hospital.

Feeding the homeless in public is now illegal in Fort Lauderdale. But not everyone gives much of a shit. Like two church leaders and a 90-year-old relief kitchen operator, all of whom were arrested over the weekend and are still planning to do it all over again. And again and again and again.

Everyone’s making puns about the AC/DC drummer who got himself arrested in New Zealand, allegedly for having a stash of meth… and trying to “procure a murder.”
