Today at city hall, I found a stack of these on the front desk in Commissioner Sam Adams’ office:

It’s a temporary tattoo. Advertising the city’s one-stop phone number. Um… why? And who would slap this on their body? Note that mine’s on my fridge.

And what happens when I need some city info, but my temporary tattoo with the magical “who to call in city hall” phone number has washed off? Who do I call then??

  1. Sure, it’s silly, but did it get the job done? Would you be blogging about this if it were a business card? I think not! Now at least a few more people are aware that such a number even exists. Gimmicks are effective advertising!

SF has an awesome “311” number, which you can call for ANYTHING related to the city (permits, non-emergency policy, … anything!) and they’ll connect you. It’s super handy.

  2. Oops, I meant “non-emergency police”. Like the time some burningman-type outside my window was ripping apart a car at 4am.

  3. Pretty snappy looking if you ask me and a cheap way to advertise a magnificient service. You can get 10,000 of these made for less than $500 and the kids love them! The I&R Specialists at 823-4000 are fantastic. If everyone knew about this service our city would be a better place!

  4. Well, at least they went for some with an attempt at style and I agree with no one in particular…you are blogging about it, so it had to be somewhat effective. And, the human brain does remember a string of numbers the length of a telephone number…so who knows how many people have now got the number stuck in their head.

We’ve had clients use these things for anything from wedding “save the date” gimmicks to non-profit fundraisers…they’re fun and cheap…whether you are doing stock or custom.

  6. Who knew the city county had an info line…that’s awesome. As for the tatoo what a clever fun way to get the word out! Kudos to the city for giving back to us in a hip family fun way!
