Well, here’s an ad that’s not so much racist as it is completely freaking ignorant to the basic premise of EVOLUTION. But we’re talking about hillbillies here… so maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised.

There’s an old joke about the reason why the film adaptation of Deliverance was shot in Georgia instead of Alabama. Apparently, not only could the film crew depend upon getting electricity in Georgia, but the locals wouldn’t think it was a documentary. (I’ll warn you that you’ll tell the moment you pass over the Florida state border into Alabama on I-10 by watching the side. The roadkill is completely absent between there and the outskirts of Houston, although you’ll find lots of skid marks leading to obvious kill sites. Lots of dead tires, though, probably because they’re too hard to cook.)

That said, did they really use this guy’s interpretation of the Bible as not completely, 100% literal (read: the same interpretation publicly embraced by essentially the entirety of the world’s Christian leadership) as a strike against him? Does the constituency prefer that their candidates disagree with their respective church hierarchy in favor of promoting unrealistic, at-best-allegorical fictions that contradict both official doctrine AND physical reality?
