I got a solution to all this: remove all state sponsored protections, benefits and sanctions from all forms of marriage. done.
you live your life how you want, leave you stuff when you die to whom you want, share custody of children with the person you created them with and file your taxes separately. This has the side benefit of removing the penalty(largely tax) for remaining single! YAY equality!
