Calling all know-it-alls. I’m compiling a list of places that I (and, in turn, you) can catch all televised matches of the World Cup, starting mid-June. Who’s showing?
So far I have:
The Moon & Sixpence
Kenny & Zuke’s
Prost!
Oblique Coffee Roasters
I know places that regularly show football, but this is butt-ass early for most bars. Comment away.

Black cat on Alberta
Costellos travel cafe on Weidler
beulahland
teh internets
Belmont Inn has an A-board outside their establishment advertising it, so I’m guessing they’re in. I’m sure Tanker on Hawthorne probably will too.
Horse Brass will most likely be showing again.
Backspace will be showing all the games, as they air, in the morning, and Someday Lounge will be re-airing them during happy hour. All for free! More details to come!
HORSE BRASS.
On weekend mornings they have a huge breakfast too. It’s got irish back bacon, ham, sausages, eggs, potatoes, stewed tomatoes, baked beans, fry bread, and toast and jam… for $7.50!
I heard a rumor that Bakery Bar on NE Glisan and about 20th-ish, but that’s like 3rd hand information. It might be better to have your World Cup with coffee and a pastry if you’re planning on being productive.
I wouldn’t be surprised if La Superior shows all Mexico games (and more), regardless of start times. They’ve got a sweet big screen. And beer.
I’ve talked to the folks from Beulah about it. They’ll be open, and probably fairly crowded, for all the games.
Do not under any circumstances real Footy fans tell Courtney or any other hipster douche who only cares about football once every 4 years where folks will be watching the matches. It is going to be bad enough with all these skinny little black jeans wearing fucks pretending they know anything about the game because they kicked a soccer ball when they were in 3rd grade but the last thing we need is to attract any Mercury readers to our places.
Almost had to kick the shit out of an annoying Barca hipster fan last Champions League match. It’s only gonna get worse.
My understanding is Beulah is actually going to not be open for most of the matches cause the owners will be over at the World Cup.
I’m reasonably certain that the Cheerful Tortoise will show all the games.
Downtown, Kells (although you’ll need to be there an hour before to get a seat for the US or England games), McFaddens and Thirsty Lion were all open for most / all of the games last time round. Kells has the best atmosphere and food of the three, and the least space.
Fuck you nomorepdx, fuck you and your entire viewpoint. You are two and a half times worse than any kind of Barcelona hipster fan, at least they are aware of what they are doing. You are just a fucking snob asshole.
Soccer hipsters? Jesus. It’s official: to the lazy, hipsters are now the go-to scapegoat for the universe of everday complaints.
Home loan denied? Damn mortgage broker hipster. Shoes falling apart? Damn child labor hipsters.
Whether you watch at home, live or in a public place, the cool thing about the World Cup is that its grand, global popularity is palpable. This is not the MLS Cup Final. Choose to watch in a public place and you’ll be surrounded by wealth of people, for better or worse. Little skinny guy in a packed bar bummin’ you out? Stay the fuck at home and watch the games, douche pouch.
Apex will be showing the games, I believe. And the Horse Brass just had a sweet new screen installed.
Do you have to have a footy mullet to be a real footy fan?
absolutely concur with Rusty and TSW about nomorePDXprocess’ comment. eat a bag of well-used jockstraps you pompous dickhead. you’re probably the type that makes me clench my jaw when watching footy in public. the know-it-all ‘soccer’ fan who has to dissect the play in a loud voice to ‘prove’ his/her vast knowledge of the game to all around them. please stay home.
personally, I’m all for getting as many people interested in the game that I love. that’s what’s going to make football a success in the USandA.
oh, and the Marathon has a shit-ton of TV’s and a decent cheap breakfast. and booze!
JUNE 12th!!!
nomorePDX is the guy drinking his tallboy and yelling “Center! Center!” and “One more!” and other terms he learned from watching his friend play high school soccer.
Please do tell us where you’ll be watching the games so we can avoid it like the plague.
Thirsty Lion will be open early for the games and serving breakfast.
Hey nomorePDXProcess it looks like Eric Cantona and two squatting women are the ones you need to avoid if you are going to be able to enjoy the games without there “skinny little black jeans wearing fucks pretending they know anything about the game because they kicked a soccer ball when they were in 3rd grade” These people also make me sick. Quit pretending you give a shit every four years. As for me it wont matter as i will be in South Africa watching the games live!!
Oh what am i saying these losers wont get out of bed early enough to watch a match!

i hate Americans, regardless of jean size ,who call soccer football the field pitch…etc etc.
To be fair nomorePDXProcess, one can only wonder where the matches of the World Cup will be televised once every four years. Asking where a particualr country’s matches might be broadcast is more Porter Wagoner than bandwagoner, really.
Bakery Bar website says they’ll be playing the matches live.
Hey y’all… resident silverback of Oblique Coffee Roasters! We will be showing all the matches as live as possible. If a match starts before 6:00 AM, we will tivo said match and start it the second we open. If we get a lot of support from people who want to watch the match here, we’ll coordinate getting breakfast options for the early games. We just opened in January and technically we’re a coffee roaster, but if there is a consistent demand for more food, we’ll offer more food options as the demand presents itself through the tourney. We have two, top of the line, 47″ / 240 mhz / 1080p Toshiba LCD flatscreens – if they were any nicer hot chicks wouldn’t look very hot. And as far as the whole conflict / anger / male / hipster discussion upstream is taking shape – anyone who starts anything at all in my house (it is in fact my house) will be unceremoniously bounced by whatever means necessary by yours truly, the police will be dispatched promptly, and the game will be stopped being shown (think of that last one as an incentive to police yourselves so that I don’t have to). Soccer is the intelligent man’s game – it is the beautiful game, and our establishment is a family establishment where people treat themselves and their surrounding community with respect and where women and children will be present. We want all the good ones to come and hang out at our place and enjoy what we have to offer. If you find yourself to be a person that complains about a lot of things, is never really satisfied with the hand you’ve been dealt, we’d prefer to not serve you, so please don’t put us in the position of saying no. Hope to see some of the nice people walk through our doors and spend some quality time with a quality community sharing a mutual appreciation of the beautiful game!
Oblique Coffee you sound like a scold. This town is overrun with the likes of you. I wouldn’t watch a tittie licking contest between Eva Mendez and Hallie Berry in your place even if it was live and I had to come on as a substitute for one of the …on second thought…
La Superior will be showing games after they open at 8 am, but as of now they have no plans to open earlier.
The Horse Brass says it will be open for 7 am games and then might show the 4:30 game on tape delay before the 11:30 game starts.
Rico Rico: Decent attempt at humor and insulting me. Alot of people hide behind these forums and make fun of people for whatever reason. Guys like you would never say those kind of things face to face, because you know what kind of reaction you’d get. I’ve never been one to hide. We’ve had a lot of nice people frequent our shop – is it safe to say you’re calling yourself out as not being of that group?
