Remember yesterday when Apple iTunes was crowing that “tomorrow is a day you will never forget”? Well, according to the WSJ, that the big reveal, the big surprise, the big revelation is that iTunes will finally start letting people download the Beatles catalog.
Well. Here’s what I have to say about that.

Dear Apple: Don’t ever, EVER bother me with bullshit news like this again! If Facebook email played music, I’d drop iTunes in a hot second.

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)

  1. This is sort of a big deal from a legal standpoint. There had been a protracted and long legal battle between Apple Records and Apple Computer. This is tactile proof that they’ve finally and totally buried the hatchet. I’m sure lots and lots of money was involved as well.

  2. This would have been great news for many people ten or twelve years ago. Imagine (hah) if the Beatles catalog was one of the first big digital releases.

Also, so much money moving behind the scenes here. So very much.

  3. Apple’s crowning achievement is turning every idiotic thing they do into a press event.
They’re like the yuppie couple that finally have that one, precious and planned child and we get to hear about every goddamn bowel movement that kid makes until they’re ten.

  4. I rarely buy from iTunes. Only if I want a song here or there. Hell, the other day I found an album that I wanted three songs from, but it was only $2 more to buy the album used off Amazon, including shipping. Better quality audio file, can play it in my wife’s car which doesn’t have iPod hookups, and I have a semi-permanent backup in case Apple fucks up my library as it has before.

  5. I’ll buy the entire Beatles catalog from iTunes if they add a fucking record label tag to the program. It’s in the ID3 tags; they just don’t utilize it for some reason. It drives me INSANE.
