That’ll have to hold you over until March 12, when Portland kicks off its season with some Monday night football against a yet-to-be-determined opponent at the House of Pane. Also TBD? The Timbers’ roster, which is reportedly poised to add 19-year-old Colombian Josรฉ Adolfo Valencia as its newest Designated Player.
Portland owner Merritt Paulson twinted at the potentially history-making move to match Valencia with fellow countrymen Diego Charรก (PTFC’s only other DP) and Jorge Perlaza.
Click past the jump for the Rose City’s current roster (for now), plus a peek at what Valencia would bring to the Timbers’ 2012 mixtape.
After declining options on seven players earlier this week, Portland’s squad at this point looks like so:
Keepers (2): Jake Gleeson, Troy Perkins
Defenders (8): Eric Brunner, Mike Chabala, Futty Danso, David Horst, Lovel Palmer, Steve Purdy, Chris Taylor, Rodney Wallace
Midfielders (8): Eric Alexander, Kalif Alhassan, Freddie Braun, Diego Chara, Jack Jewsbury, James Marcelin, Darlington Nagbe, Sal Zizzo
Forwards (4): Kenny Cooper, Bright Dike, Eddie Johnson, Jorge Perlaza
How will Portland’s 2012 highlight reel look once Valencia is officially official? Potentially a bit more like this:

Nobody cares about soccer.
soccer haters on the internet. never gets old.
WE’RE AMERICAN WE CAN’T LIKE THAT FUCKING SOCCER SHIT GTFO OUT MERCURY
Yeah, there was a whole sold out stadium of not caring about soccer, rube.
THIS IS SHIT OVER WITH YET? CAN WE JUST GO AHEAD AND CALL IT A FAILURE AND MOVE ON?
Why would you call it a failure? Because they did’nt win a championship? Or are you being sarcastic?
Showing all the goals the Timbers conceded between the 80th and 90th minutes would have been twice as long.
an entire 40 points? for the whole season?
How about we arbitrarily call a goal 6 points?
Outside of one championship what have the Blazers done (with 50 times the budget)? Are they a “failure”?
