So Norm MacDonald’s in town this weekend, doing standup at Helium. I will be going, and I’m excited—but I’m also stoked that I now have an excuse to post a video of MacDonald’s 1998 appearance on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, which might very well be my favorite talk-show appearance of all time. This segment is ostensibly an interview with Melrose Place‘s Courtney Thorne-Smith, but Norm steals it. “You’re the biggest ass I ever met!” a laughing Conan tells MacDonald at one point. Little does he know that Norm’s just getting started.
… and no one ever heard from Courtney Thorne-Smith ever again.

Lucky bastard.
+1. One of the best talk show appearances of all time. I’ll be at the late show on Friday.

@seldom seen: That is FANTASTIC. Somehow I must’ve missed that episode.
Good taste Erik, because it’s also my favorite TV moment of all time.
Man Conan looks faaaaaaaaaaaat!
Also, I’m ashamed to admit knowing this, but I can tell you precisely where Courtney Thorne-Smith ended up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/According_to_….
@Denis C. Theriault: ACCORDING TO JIM TRAP!
Hey can anyone tell me that name Norm’s feature act from this past weekend at Helium, Portland? I keep thinking his name was Stevie Ray Bronson, but I can’t get any hits on that name. Norm was of course amazing, but this guy’s stuff on religion was top notch.
