The Mercury has learned of a new food-centric collaboration
between Back Fence PDX and one of the producers behind Live
Wire!
, Kate Sokoloff. The Dinner and a Story series will
feature Back Fence PDX-style storytelling mixed with a multi-course
family-style prix fixe menu from a local chef. The start of each course
will feature a story from a Portlander of interest who will then join
diners for conversation during the meal. There are also plans for
additional entertainment during the events, which will begin in late
summer. See dinnerandastory.com for more
information.

It was reported on Portland Food and Drink this week that Alberta
Street Oyster Bar and Grill
is to close on Sunday, June 28. The
restaurant was part of the first wave of upscale dining to hit Alberta
Street about four years ago. Initially helmed by Chef Eric Bechard, who
gained fame among the city’s elite eaters, the restaurant never really
gained enough traction. After some trouble and an abrupt closure,
Bechard eventually left Portland to cook at Seattle’s Opal last year.
There are new plans for the space to be revived as a whiskey bar.

  1. I should add that as of yesterday, we’ve teamed up with the amazing and talented, Blake Von Roekel who will cook up food inspired by the stories. YUM!
