Jimmy Mak’s, 221 NW 10th, 295-6542, Mon-Sat 5-7 pm, $1 off
pints, $3 wells, cheap food
Jimmy Mak’s is one of the few places in town featuring live jazz on
a regular basis. If you can handle parking in the Pearl, it’s worth it
to sit among the old gray-haired hipsters, bobbing to the downbeat.
Jimmy’s, 3017 SW Multnomah, 293-2100, daily 3-7 pm, $3
micros, $2 domestics, $2.50 wells
A nice neighborhood sports bar without the obnoxious sports bar
feel. You gotta dig the well-hung balcony and the high ceilings. And
with 11 TVs it’s unlikely you’ll miss Greg Oden kicking everyone’s ass
next season.
Joe’s Cellar, 1332 NW 21st, 223-8825, daily 4-6 pm, $2 pints,
$2 food; daily 7-10 am, $1 off booze
Ahhh Joe’s. Sweetly crusty and packed with regulars who can drink
more before noon than you’re ever likely to drink in your entire life.
Friendly staff and that perfect divey atmosphere. Great end to a long
nightshift pushin’ freight.
Jolly Roger, 1340 SE 12th, 232-8060, Mon-Fri 9-11 am &
4-7 pm, 50 cents off wells & selected drafts, daily drink &
food specials
It’s so sad when a dive gets remodeled. Nevertheless, drinks are
strong and there’s plenty of eye candy. Don’t worry though; it can’t
keep that shine for long. The dive always comes back. Always.
