Restaurant Details

Foti’s (often called simply the “Greek Delil”) is a Portland landmark of sorts. Unchanged for years, it’s bare bones, simple interior serves as a Greek deli/restaurant and grocery as well. Order at the counter from a large selection of Greek dishes like slouvaki, gyros, spanakopita and greek salad as well as American favorites like burgers (garden too) fries; both French and “Greek” (broasted/jojos). A large selection of soft drinks and beer await in the refrigerated cases and the grocery store section carries items like phyllo dough, olives, balsamic vinegar, wine and cookies. It’s like one-stop Greek heaven!

The title says it all really. They have some other good eats too. They also pile on a huge chunk of feta if you order a gyros w/ feta. Delicious!

I love the vegetarian souvlaki, the fries, the gardenburger with feta (Omg! YUM!), and the Greek salad. Sometimes I wish I ate meat, because the gyros always smell so good. Not only is the food fantastic, but so is the service. The woman who is always working at the cash register is probably the sweetest woman over 40 in the entire Portland vicinity.

I have only had their vegetarian options. The Gardenburger w/feta and fries are, indeed, fabulous. The Greek salad is excellent - firm vegetables with a nice blend of seasonings. And the woman behind the counter is, as mentioned before, wonderfully friendly and helpful.

The hummus is absolutely amazing, unlike any other. If I ever move away from Portland I will pay to have it shipped, it is that good. You can fuck around with your food processor and make pathetically inferior bean paste or you can kick your sister in the jaw and buy some Foti's. Impress your friends and humiliate your family . Seriously, it is that good.

Yep, best Gyro in Portland, but all Gyros in Portland kinda suck. I'm used to seeing the lamb/beef cone of meat rotisserie-thing being shaved to order, and no lettuce. The Souvlaki is much better, and if you order the plate version it comes with a delish greek tomato salad. The little store area is like a museum - filled with imported oddities that would probably taste great if I knew how to cook the stuff. The woman behind the counter gets 5 stars for herself.
