By day, it goes by the name Cellar Door Coffee Roasters, at night, it becomes a vegan take on an Italian trattoria. Very much at home in it's close-in Southeast location, this tiny cafe offers delectable meat and dairy-free versions of traditional Italian dishes like: Osso Busco, ravioli, gnocci, lasagna and even tiramisu. And to top it all off, they offer baked goods from that oh-do-delicious Little T bakery!

Re-dic-u-lous! We had porrata (this leek tart thingy), and a pickle plate followed by some amazing pumpkin raviolis, vegan sausages with pears and fennel, and some lasagna to share. We finished with the tira misu and panna cotta...goodness! The place is small and cute and the waitstaff was super laid back and friendly. We're going back for sure!
Tender portobello steaks, "priest choker" pasta with roasted veggies and pine nuts, butternut ravioli with hazelnut and sage (which wasn't boring even though every restaurant has it on menu in the winter), truffle & garlic mashed potatoes (the truffle oil was lost to the garlic, but they were good anyway), and roasted brussel sprouts; it was all tasty and well cooked, though the brussel sprouts were quite oily. The tira misu was a lovely dessert, but should be called light & airy cheesecake instead of tira misu. It's not expensive, and the entrees can be ordered as small or large plates. The staff is friendly and nice. Make reservations on the weekends. This place is not "good for vegan food;" it's just really good food. I'm not vegan, and I'll go back and bring friends.
The food was molto bouno! The atmosphere kind of threw it all off though. I know they're just getting this place going and what not but I hope they can find a different spot for it soon. The coffee shop ambiance sort of took away from the Italian dining experience. But one should go regardless just to try all the awesome dishes. Several of the dinner items can be order as a half size so you can try more than just one dish when you dine. The artichoke crostata (or whatever it was called) on the starter menu was superb! We also tried the beet salad, the portobello steak over polenta, a mushroom ravioli dish, and the potato gnocchi. All were really very tasty. We finished with the vegan "tiramisu." I realize this is a hard dish to recreate vegan-wise but they really shouldn't be calling it tiramisu. While it tasted quite delicious, I hardly think it resembled tiramisu.
