Restaurant Details

Spacious yet cozy Southern food kitchen with a full bar. The varied menu has something for most tastes; Po-boy, fried green tomatoes, fried chicken, grits, ribs and so on. All crafted with seasonal and local ingredients whenever possible. On weekends, check out the increasingly popular waistline-expanding brunch for items like biscuits & gravy (both sausage and vegetarian) or Bananas Foster French Toast. Aw yeah now, that's what I'm talkin' about.

Fun, modern decor with a barn-ish feel to it. Decent sized menu, and I love that they have a list of seasonal/local sides. I don't know how authentic this place is (I hail from New England, not the south) but it's bloody delicious, either way. Try the hush puppies or the fried green tomatoes to start, especially if you're unfamiliar.

The Screen Door is one of my very favorite restaurants in Portland- particularly for weekend brunch. The bananas foster french toast is excellent, and my meat-eating friends died for the praline bacon. Dinner is also wonderful, with many local and organic choices. Plus, the waitstaff is pretty cute.

The food is good but they could stand to add a couple more vegetarian items to the menu. They were open for lunch for a short time and served a tofu po'boy sandwich that was crazy-good. I did go there once and the waitress seemed more interested in schmoozing with her friends than actually waiting on us which was really annoying especially after I caught her eye and she still didn't return to out table the food pretty much made up for it but she sucked. If they brought back the tofu po'boy AND reopened for lunch I'd probably give them 5 stars.

I'm from Alabama so I feel like I can give y'all a pretty accurate southern point of view on this joint. Everything I've ever had here is so good. The fried chicken is crispy not greasy. The fried oyster benedict is scrumdiddlyumptious. The sweet potatoe fries are awesome. The grits are quite decent and the corn bread is passable but everyone from the south knows that you don't put sugar in cornbread which every "southern" restaurant up here including Screen Door doesn't seem to realize. I heart screen door!

Just like the lesbionic novel--I don't know anywhere else in town you can get them!
