Portland has more than it's fair share of sushi joints but the cuisine of Japan is much more expansive than raw fish and rice.
Welcome Tanuki (named after the Shinto racoon/dog/god of drinking, gluttony and restaurateurs)! In the tradition of Japanese corner bars, an ever-changing variety of Japanese dishes are served out of this tiny restaurant. Offerings include ingredients such as: fresh-made tofu, bamboo pickles, real wasabi, pork belly, oysters, bay shrimp, soba noodles, kimchee and much, much more. Sourced locally and imported when necessary the ingredients are expertly crafted into mouth-watering edibles by proprietor/chef Janis Martin. To drink, try a beer, sake, Japanese drinking vinegar or Shark energy drink.
