Add “sex” to the list of things you can go back to school for this season: Buster Ross of Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation—who’s helping out with the Minneapolis stop of the HUMP! Tour—is bringing a series of lectures to the Q Center over the next few weeks, called the “Sexual Health Series,” aimed at strengthening the link between sexual health and the ability to recover from alcohol and other drug abuse/addiction.
Kicking off next Saturday, Sept 20, most of the events are free, including “America’s War on Sex: Why All Orientations Are at Risk” and “Ethical Sluthood,” and fans of Dan Savage will note that the first day of events features lectures by Marty Klein, PhD, of whose work—Klein’s written seven books on sexuality—he has said, “makes me feel sane. (Klein’s also guested in the odd Savage Love column.)
As maybe the most famous contributor to the series (which runs through the end of October and also features Charlie Glickman, PhD and Janet W. Hardy), Klein’s opening lecture, “Sexual Intelligence: A New View of Sexual Function and Satisfaction,” will run you $99 to attend, but that’s about the cost of a single session with a good therapist. See the complete listing here.
Speaking of HUMP!: Submissions for the 2014 edition of the amateur porn festival are due Tuesday, Sept 30! Find out all you need to know about it here.
