Every now and then I like to put my BA in Trophy Wifeism Liberal Arts to good use—you know, use “poststructuralism” in a sentence, that kinda shit. The monthly Art Spark parties are a fine place to do so: Every third Thursday, art boosters, movers, shakers, etc. convene on the bar at the Living Room Theater for an evening of clinking their cocktails around, talking about the Portland art world, and listening to a six-minute presentation from a special guest.

Third Angle New Music Ensemble is the featured guest tonight. This is of particular note because Third Angle has one of the more interesting projects in this year’s TBA festival. In the 1960s and ’70s, the modernist architect Lawrence Halprin designed three Portland parks: The Keller Fountain, which everyone is familiar with; and the lesser-known Pettygrove Park and Lovejoy Fountain. Halprin’s designs were influenced by his wife, the choreographer Anna Halprin, and Third Angle’s Frozen Music II: The City Dance of Lawrence and Anna Halprin brings performances inspired by the couple to the parks designed by Halprin. Choreographers Linda K. Johnson, Cydney Wilkes, Linda Austin, and Tere Mathern are on board—it sounds like a great project. Read more about it here, or swing by the Living Room Theaters tonight from 5-7 to hear about it firsthand.

Alison Hallett served nobly as the Mercury's arts editor from 2008-2014. Her proud legacy lives on.

  1. Using the term “post” before anything INSTANTLY gives you a plus five in smartipantsness.

But you can only use it once a day, otherwise you lose all your dragonlancing skillz.
