Ezra Ace Caraeff
Ezra Ace Caraeff is the former Music Editor for the Mercury, and spent nearly a third of his life working at the paper. More importantly, he is the owner of Olive, the Mercury’s unofficial office dog. His writing has appeared in The Fader, The Stranger, The Onion's A.V. Club, ESPN's TrueHoop network, and countless fanzines that are thankfully long out of print. He makes a mean tofu scramble and yes, Ace is really his middle name.
The Greatest Thing Sarah Palin Has Ever Done
When selected in the 1989 draft, NBA scouts listed ‘”pure shooter” and “ability to run the floor” as Glen Rice’s strengths. They forgot to add one strength of his: Ability to (allegedly) bone the future governor of Alaska: In “The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin,” Joe McGinniss’ soon-to-be-published book for former Alaska governor […]

This Week’s Mercury Music Section
Another week, another Mercury music section to read while you ponder the fate of poor Ted Nugent, who is too “divisive” for the Rick Perry campaign. Man up, Perry. He wrote “Wang Dang Sweet Poontang,” that’s at least good enough for a position in your cabinet. Secretary of Bow Hunting and Partying Down! Holy fuckballs, […]
Heavy Mettle
A much-deserved victory lap for Archers of Loaf.

Glass Candy – “Warm in the Winter” / “Beautiful Object”
You don’t need to be a weatherman with a Doplar 85000 to know that it’s hot as balls—that’s a technical term us meteorologists use—here in Portland. Well, it’s about to heat up even more now that Glass Candy has broken their silence with a pair of smoldering new tracks, “Warm in the Winter” and “Beautiful […]
