For those of you who still think that Justin Bieber’s new memoir First Step 2 Forever is “lightweight”—well… well.. EFF YOU!!! It all depends on how you read it. For example, listen to world renown Shakespearean actor Gordon Pinsent read some choice selections from Das Bieb’s book on the comedy show This Hour Has 22 Minutes. (Maybe I’ll read some selections aloud, too! But I think I’ll use a witch’s voice.)

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)

  1. “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” was one of my favourite shows when in Canada. I find it amazing that it is on the air still (started in 1993 btw).

  2. As a two year college student of German I long have questioned the appellation “das Bieb” by Wm. Tm. Hump.

“Das” is the nominative neuter definite article. (Perversely, German, unlike Latin, declines its articles, rather than the nouns themselves–WHICH IS THE FUNDAMENTAL REASON THAT THE WORLD HAS SO MANY INELUCTABLE PROBLEMS WITH GERMANS!)

A native speaking German friend told me that when German adopts English nouns those words are invariably given the neuter GRAMMATICAL GENDER–WHICH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SEXUALITY, FOR GERMAN IS THE ONLY KNOWN LANGUAGE THAT MAKES GIRLS NEUTER AND TURNIPS FEMININE!

AND I AM WORKING THESE ISSUES OUT!

So, Wm. Tm. Hump, it should be “Der Bieb,” for Bieber clearly is a German surname of masculine gender, whatever the factual sexuality of its bearer should be.

AND PLEASE REMEMBER THAT I AM WORKING THESE ISSUES OUT!
