- Gumby Bike does the pretzel
Attention all bike nerds!
Mere youngster 21-year-old Kevin Scott from the UK has just designed a bike that can bend around poles and lock to itself.
This cool Gumby-bike has been praised not only for its flexibility, but also for its state of the art locking system, which has been described as “incredible anti-theft” and “one-of-a-kind” .
The bike uses a ratchet system to make it bendable. This ratchet system takes up the whole frame, but it’s what makes the bike able to bend around poles, trees, and even pack tight for transport. This beats even the folding bicycles. Even though my current lock works fine, it would be nice not to have to lug it around everywhere and worry about forgetting it. Not to mention a bike that can do the pretzel is a fantastic party trick. Definitely something to keep an eye on…

Looks neat.
So it’s flexi, but also totally locks in place and ends up being as strong as a regular frame when riding?
er, by, “locks in place,” I don’t mean, “locks to a pole,” but rather, “the bendy sections ‘lock’ together to be totally unbendy…
@ROM: I was wondering the same thing. Maybe it would even survive wrecks better due to its “crumple zone”, but until I see how sturdy that really is, I still like the bike with the built-in U-lock holes better.
That guy is CUUUTEEEE. *fans self*
Is he going to ride in some mountains in his brand new clothes? Continuity error: That bike is not rideable. No brakes on a single speed. And maybe he should get some street tires to get rid of that bum bike look.
@stonerghost: yeah, wut. It even looks like it has a derailer. Where are the brakes?
You don’t need brakes, you just skid sideways and then it flops in half, throwing you gracefully to the ground. Ta da!
