What is Your Reaction After Watching This PSA?

1. I don’t think that you can have a meaningful discussion about rape without talking about several other social factors. Talk about gender roles and expectations. Talk about typical ways people ‘hook up’ and what kind of behaviors are selected for. Talk about our attitude toward other people in general – namely our almost universal disdain for anyone with any type of problem. We should also talk about male sexual frustration and the way values are so often shaped by peer groups because adults don’t positively interact with youth anymore.

   But we shouldn’t just have taboo based morality, because that’s stupid and doesn’t work. We need to be aware of the first principles that motivate our actions, even if these principles indicate other problems with our culture that we might not like to admit.

2. Short answer: I think you’d be surprised how little effect a series of public service announcements would have on actual rapists.

3. It reminds me of the “You have the power to stop rape in your hands” decals that used to be in the urinals at the EMU in Eugene.

4. Hmmmm.
   It says a lot, but somehow doesn’t say enough…it’s a tall order. So yes, aware parents can raise appropriate behaving males?
   Still, I’d rather see a PSA about something that CAN be prevented/changed than nothing at all.
