From Graham:

How boring. Oregon blows. I don’t get to be all extra emotional and stand in line. I guess I did save 42 cents by dropping my ballot off at the library. That’s kind of the same. But really really boring. No “I voted” sticker for me.

What’s yours?

  1. Little known fact: You don’t have to put a stamp on your ballot. So… That dude actually wasted money driving to the library. If he votes Obama, though… He’ll get a positive ROI from the tax cut.

  2. I actually live two blocks from the library and don’t own a car.

Do you have any supporting evidence for the no stamp on the ballot thing? The Multnomah County Elections FAQ seems to think that you do. But you don’t need to

  3. Not putting a stamp on your ballot means postage is due when it reaches its destination. You might not get your ballot returned if your home county is willing to pick up the tab.

Because your vote is on the line and because trying to save 42 cents at the expense of a publicly funded agency is just kind of a lame thing to do, you should put a stamp on your ballot. 300k stamps amount to over $100k in postage. That buys a lot of veterinary care for stray animals and supervision of sex offenders.

It’s also worth mentioning that postmarks don’t count for meeting the 8:00 deadline, so if you’re really set on gaming the system for a 42 cent prize, you should wait for the next election.
