Okay, so maybe Bastille Day was technically on Thursday, but that was in France, and you know what? This ain’t no France. But no matter: Today marks Portland’s biggest Bastille Day celebration, hosted by Pix Patisserie. From 3 pm until midnight on N Failing between Williams and Vancouver, there will be tons of live music from Sam Humans and the Light, Angry Orts, Pigeons, Cloudy October, Guidance Counselor, Cool Nutz and DJ Fatboy, Deelay Ceelay, DJ Erik Beats. There are also plenty of non-musical things to keep you busy, such as a 5K run during which you are actually encouraged to drink wine (and wear a costume), A bike scavenger hunt that starts at the SE Division Pix and ends at the party, some kind of nonsense about hula hoops, lessons in how to slice the top off a bottle of champagneโ€”it’s called, awesomely, “sabering,” and a grape stomping contest. The best part is that unlike the celebration of our own nation’s revolution, you are less likely to get drunk and blow off your hand than you are to just get drunk.

  1. Boy I sure bet the French are glad they helped us attain our independence as we celebrate theirs with the typical anti French sentiment and by having a “bike scavenger hunt”. How DOES the latter differ from what they normally do anyway? good thing the French are to busy trying to hang Sarkozy in effigy
