The good people at Publication Studio, Matthew Stadler and Patricia No, are throwing the second installment of their Publisher’s Lunch series Tuesday, February 15, from noon to 2 PM. This time, they’re celebrating the release of Philip Iosca’s new poetry collection Ballad Of The Sad Young Men (our man in the stacks, Jacob Schraer, will have more on that).
I missed the first lunch back in November, but I’d really like to make it to as many as I can going forward. Each event is built around the text that they’re celebrating. Since this title suggests some, you know, sad shit, and as the lunch takes place the day after Valentine’s Day, Iosca requested that Chef Jeremy Larter (Holocene Catering, which kills it at their Friday happy hour, by the way) prepare a “black lunch.” Larter consented—though, he did mention that the black is in quotation marks. I think that means that your plate won’t look like a pile of cole, but looking at the menu, Larter certainly rose to the challenge (full menu after the jump).
The lunch takes place at the downtown home of Iosca and his partner Thomas Lauderdale, of Pink Martini fame. The table will be set for 60, and Lartner will set up a temporary kitchen right there in the dining room. Iosca will read from the collection, along with local poet Matthew Dickman.
$48, yeah, is a little pricey, but keep in mind that it includes lunch, drinks, gratuity, and a copy of the book. If you can scrape together the dough, and get out of work for a couple hours, I think you’ll be pleased. TIckets are available through the PS Web site, but seating is very limited.

Their home is a big old 1870s building, and it can seat 75 for lunch, if we arrange the tables all together in a big U-shape. And so we upped the number of seats but, sad to say, have just sold out the event, nevertheless. Sorry to anyone who just got notice of it.
