Did you know that if your child exhibits suicidal tendencies or other mental health issues that health officials can put that child in a psychiatric care for 72 hours without parental consent?

I didn’t and neither did this mother in Los Angeles:

Is this a good thing? Should mental health professionals be allowed to take a child like this? Intuitively it doesn’t feel appropriate, but if a child is exhibiting potentially suicidal tendencies, wouldn’t you want them watched by psychologists? Yes? No? Possibly? Mind my own god damn business?

  1. The government can take your children whenever it wants. Maybe before playing journalist/commentator and acting all surprised about the modern reality of the role of the state you should make a little visit down to the courthouse or the justice center or the juvenile detention facility or the child services division of DHS or a civil commitment hearing or the police station.

  2. Home school, problem solved. I like the way the mental health community said that ‘we couldn’t second guess’ as ‘we weren’t there’. Really? I am pretty sure that were someone to take my child (don’t have one but have a lot of nieces and nephews) I would have the right to second guess. I am sure the 48 hours he spent listening to crazy people wailing in an isolated facility won’t traumatize him at all…

    F’d up.
