Hurry, and don’t miss this special offer: Until 11:59 pm PST today, all Facebook posts offering prayers for little orphans with cancer at the rate of “1 Like = 100 Prayer’s” will be automatically upgraded to “1 Like = 10,000 Prayer’s”!

Once you buy into the idea that: a) some supreme being gives a shit, and b) it might actually change some bit of its intelligently designed reality based on your feedback, then why wouldn’t you think you could nudge that fucker hard by asking a million times via technology?

  1. “Some supreme being gives a shit”? Just because you’re an athiest doesn’t mean you get to pontificate on the power of prayer. Since there’s no god, I guess you can take credit for your beating heart, breathing lungs, and self-eliminating bowels. I mean, you invented that shit right?? When you get that cancer diagnosis (and you will) you will be praying like a little bitch.

  2. Hey lazaar, Pascal’s wager says the smart money is on belief. If you DON’T believe and God turns out to exist, the cost is your eternal soul. If you DO believe and there ends up being no god, it costs you nothing. Except your rationality, I guess.

  3. Oh, fuck, Aurelius. What an uneducated cunt you must be to lean on the “no atheists in foxholes” idea and further to call anyone out for questioning the power of prayer. Read up, bozo, and maybe you’d encounter several peer-reviewed studies evaluating the power of prayer and find how little support there is for the efficacy. Oh, and apropos of your comment about “inventing” basic bodily functions, please cite one single instance of the intricacy of human bodily function that shows signs of intelligently guided design. Trees are biologically complicated too, dipshit, and nobody ever seems to wonder how they manage photosynthesis without consciousness or grand design. One last thing- are you also a younf earth creationist? Maybe you just have a muddled buffet of “spiritual” beliefs with no rational basis. I don’t know for sure but I guess I don’t want to spend any more time pondering the thought process of someone stuck in the fucking bronze age.

  4. Speaking of God, I wonder if Inconvenient Convenience is doing alright. I think we’ve made it through the suicidal rains, so now it’s just about the people.

  5. Wow ATP, I’m so honored that my simple implication that life itself is proof of intelligent design has ruffled your feathers so thoroughly (you are a chicken posing as a human, correct?) And while tempted to point out that agnostic, which literally translates as “I don’t know” and therefore does not belong in the same sentence with “smart money” (thanks LAZZAR), I’d much rather have a field day on your even more ignorant position. the universe has been crashing elements together for 16 billion years, while the arrival of humans is quite recent. And despite the advent of science, humans have failed miserably at explaining their own existence. Your calling me a throwback to the bronze age is proof of your desperate desire to justify a truly archaic belief: that humans are more godlike than god itself. You do realize that humanity stretches WAY back beyond the bronze age right? And that the vast majority of humans acknowledge that something bigger than us must have created us? I’m not talking about creationist bullshit. I’m just saying that millions is years of evolution produced an animal so smart that it could question its own origine. You, my friend, are so scared of your origine that you deny it completely. Bravo.

  6. I/A, I didn’t think your rant was much, but you brought out some stranger comments.

Aurelius 141, I think you rattled allergic to whatever’s feathers. When a commenter refers to another commenter as a C—, that is time to respond. You did real well responding to this commenter that is just a bully.

Allergictopleasure, you just signed up not too long ago, I hope you leave even sooner. Nobody is trying to convert you to a person of faith. Just relax.

  7. Thanks STM. Its nice to share intelligent voices here when so many people just want to throw insults around. Algae on Mars for President! 🙂

  8. What I find so infuriating is the arrogant assumption that humans are at the pinnacle of scientific understanding of the universe. I am well aware that humans predate the bronze age, and your appeal to the notion that many of our populace have believed in a creator for all this time is one of the worst logical fallacies anyone is likely to encounter. The fact that I can question my origin( without an “e” at the end, by the way) and say “I don’t know” simply means that I seek to learn more, not to stop searching at the point of “It must be magic” and leave it at that. I apologize for my profanity but not my stance on our lack of understanding of absolutely everything. I happen to care about what is true and provable, what is sufficient AND necessary as a cause for existence. Again, let me extend my apologies for inflammatory remarks, and give props to your refusal to refer to a deity with a gender, but, as I already stated, I stick by my original position.

  9. Allow me one last salvo: As far as accusations of my bullying go, please recognize that atheists are the most roundly reviled portion of the population of this inexplicably backwards nation. Recent polls have shown that atheists rank BELOW sex offenders as what to many families would consider acceptable additions to the fold. Let that sink in for a moment, consider our history, and then try really hard to apply the label of bully. I know that Aurelius didn’t label me as such(and I thank you) but if we want an honest discourse, let’s truly be honest- I am the minority and my voice is terribly quiet in a relative sense. Vox Populi should hold no sway.
