On June 24th I attended the annual Portland Metro Chamber meeting at the Moda Center. I was a member. I and a couple others were very unhappy with the red carpet roll out the PMC is giving the new owner of the Blazers. Our ire was particularly aimed at the PMC giving a big green light for the City to use many millions of dollars from PCEF, the Portland Clean Energy Fund, a fund created specifically for climate justice projects, to add to the other public funds to renovate the MODA Center, a project that the Blazers’ owner does not plan on contributing a dime to. We stood up chanting Hands OFF PCEF! PCEF is for climate justice, not luxury locker rooms, No PCEF for billionaires, we had small cloth signs we held up. When security came to whisk us away we complied. In response to this I received an email from the PMC that my membership is canceled, because I violated the code of conduct, “endangering the safety and integrity of the PMC”. We were really just not that scary, and as for integrity, I think they need to re-examine what that means.
Portland Metro Chamber, and your best friend Mayor Wilson, I say again: Hands Off PCEF!—Anonymous
