Is it just me or has downtown lost it’s soul over the last year? I thought it was gentrification and invasion of the yuppies, I thought it was the Californians, and then I thought it was just a swing in moods of an ever swinging world. Every month it gets a little worse, and though I used to walk by you and be in awe of the raw ingenuitive powers and resourcefulness of mankind, I cannot help but notice that at the same time, every month, you get a little taller.

Perhaps I’m inventing connections in my own head. Maybe people are not controlled and separated through their infrastructure, maybe a construction company does not run the world. Then again I cannot ignore the facts; every month you get taller and every month downtown looses a little more of it’s soul.

I see your dark interior and know some evil corporation is going to inhabit you, like Monsanto or something. I’m calling you the dark tower (credit to Stephen King)

PS- I know you ate my friend… ohh wait that was the Fred Meyer building going up on Burnside, but I’m sure Monsanto is behind that one too.

  1. Downtown Portland has always been a deadzone. It’s for people with jobs there, and for drunk suburbanites on the weekend. The south end also has freshman and exchange students living in the dorms of PSU.

You concept of what Portland used to be must be based on the period of time when you were imagining it prior to moving here.

  2. Cliche rant test

    gentrification [check]
    yuppies [check]
    Californians [check]
    mankind [check]
    controlled [check]

I can smell the dread funk emanating from this post.

  3. Another boring tower, while Europe and Asia put up buildings shaped like fangs and dildos and surfboards. Portland needs a spiral tower.

Elect me mayor, I’ll levy a Spiral Tower Fee.
