Jesse Hughes: So far right you cant even see his right hand.
Jesse Hughes: So far right you can’t even see his right hand. HARMONY GERBER/SHUTTERSTOCK

It’s worth remembering the moment when Jesse Hughes of Eagles of Death Metalโ€”the band that was on stage when the shots rang out at Bataclan in Paris in 2015โ€”deserved and received the world’s sincere sympathy.

It’s also worth remembering the moment, three months later, when he instantly squandered all that good will.

It will be supremely worth remembering that he took a predictably antagonistic stance against the March for Our Lives protest last weekend, attacking the kids who organized it with disingenuous memes, and cementing his affiliation with the paranoid wing of the anti-gun-control legion. The Guardian reports:

Hughes shared an illustration of a woman telling a man, โ€œI turned in my gun to do my part in ending violence,โ€ to which he replies, โ€œI chopped off my own dick to stop rape.โ€ In a caption beneath the post, Hughes questions the efficacy of passing new legislation as a way of โ€œ[combating] chronic abusers and disregarders of the law (like the law against Murder)โ€ and accuses the Parkland survivors of โ€œexploiting the death of 16 of our fellow students for a few Facebook likes and some media attentionโ€.

The Guardian has approached Hughesโ€™s representatives for comment.

The musician continued: โ€œThe Whitney Houston song about letting the children lead the way wasnโ€™t actually had [sic] operating paradigm for life…..And when the truth donโ€™t line up with your bullshit narrative just hold your breath and stamp your feet and refused [sic] to except [sic] it…. then take multiple days off of school playing hooky at the expense of 16 [sic] of your classmates blood….!…. it might be funny if it wasnโ€™t so pathetic and disgusting……โ€

Sic is right.
