SURVIVOR SONGS—The sad tale of Roky Erickson has been well documented in film, songs, and even by the man himself, but an even better story is the Texas legend’s wondrous comeback from the brink, his recent career revitalization, and tonight’s show, which offers fans yet another chance to see the man behind the 13th Floor Elevators. This weekend he brings his stand-up to Portland, and you’d be a goddamn fool to miss it. I’m currently rewatching Dirty Work for the 4,927th time in anticipation. EH

His weathered rasp and her gentle murmur contrast perfectly, making for spooky country noir with a tinge of gothic romance. NL
