For as many times as people have claimed “Rock is Dead,” April 18th might become one of the top 3 dates people point to as the time of departure. While he’s mostly known now as the guy who does the New Year’s party on TV with Ryan Seacrest, Clark – maybe more than any other person on Earth – was responsible for introducing the genre of Rock and Roll music to mainstream America.


TMZ is reporting that Clark has died of a massive heart attack,
at the age of 82.

  1. Massive, in the British sense, I hope.

    I think he was trying to outlast Don Cornelius because Soul Train > American Bandstand.

  2. He didn’t invent it, but he did partake, although he avoided getting in any trouble for it. Alan Freed (the guy widely believed to have invented the term Rock & Roll) was nailed for Payola, and it pretty much killed his career.
