Ditching the Day Job: Rumors are everywhere that Hillary Clinton might be in Obama’s cabinet, maybe as Secretary of State? Rumors rumors rumors.
206 votes: With a tiny margin between Republican Senator Norm “ethics investigation” Coleman and Air America’s Al Franken, Minnesota starts its lengthy recount.
Uh… AIDS Cured? Doctors in Germany “cured” a man’s AIDS with stem cell transplants but the head of America’s National Institute for Infectious Disease says the cure is all blase: ” It’s very nice, and it’s not even surprising.” So, uh, maybe curing AIDS isn’t a big deal after all?
Speaking of AIDS: MILK premiere tonight! edit: shit! I’m sorry! I’m one of the kids who never saw the Harvey Milk biography in high school health class. I thought he died of AIDS. Thanks to the handful of people who quickly pointed out that I’m an idiot and please accept my total embarrassment as retribution for the mistake. But MILK does premiere tonight and you should go see it. Obviously, I should.
Can Japan Rescue the Global Economy With Enormous Bags of Money? The country has $1 trillion in reserves, but doesn’t look like it’ll be feeling philanthropic.
Tight Budget: The Oregon state budget was projecting a $500 million shortfall. That was before the economic meltdown.
Prop 8 Boycott: After looking up donors on internet databases, gays and their allies vocally boycott local businesses who supported California’s gay marriage ban.

“speaking of AIDS, MILK premeirs tonight”
why did you write that???
Yes, why?
Awful.
“speaking of AIDS, MILK premeirs tonight”
Will someone please explain to Sarah why that was ridiculously offensive?
3 edits and then that. wow. well done.
S.mirk, i never took the “arah” out of your name but it’s a great (non-intentional?) pseudonym
I’m really sorry, guys – the wording was not meant to imply that AIDS is a “gay disease” or exclusively a gay issue. Somewhere along the way in my life, I got it into my head that Harvey Milk died of AIDS. Obviously I need to patch up my faulty education and getting out to see MILK would be a good first step.
I’m glad you guys had such a strong and quick reaction to the comment – the way it read was incredibly offensive and I appreciate you calling me out. God, I feel awful.
thanks for the apology… you should see The Life and Times of Harvey Milk, the biopic about him and his murder. he was an amazing figure in gay history, and his story paved the way for our own gay politicians..
Haha Intel hates the gays. Recognize anyone on this list of Oregon contributors to Prop 8?

I’ll check that out, JS. In the meantime, I’ve spent the morning reading about Milk on the internet and finding out about all these terrifying laws that existed not long before I was born. So oral sex was a FELONY in California in 1970? Jesus, it always feels like two steps forward, one (big, long Prop-8 sized) step back.
the word “blase” doesn’t work the way you think it does, sarah.
