President Obama held a pre-vacation press conference this afternoon to discuss Edward Snowden and the NSA. If you’d like to read his ideas for reforms, you should visit The Daily Dot, which lays them out pretty clearly. None of them are particularly compelling.

Obama also said “I don’t think Mr. Snowden was a patriot” by leaking this information. But a question that many people are raising right now seems relevant to this conversation: If President Obama is offering up reforms in response to Snowden’s revelations, doesn’t that mean that, according to Obama’s own description, Snowden is officially a whistleblower? He’s a government employee who spoke out against something that he thought was wrong, and the government appears to be trying to reform some of the wrongdoings that Snowden revealed. That’s the definition of whistleblowing.

  1. Let me guess conservatives will start saying that ‘Communist Muslim Terrorist’ is fine, as soon (well after) as it becomes clear he was a Republican all along.
