It’s official. We just got word that the rumored City of Portland vs. Occupy Portland softball game is happening early next month. Check out the details!

Portland City Park Rangers have challenged Occupy Portland to a friendly game of softball. Occupy Portland gladly accepted this invitation and in turn has invited all unions that represent Portland city workers, as well as the general public, to join in the celebration of unity and mutual respect.

We ask that all who attend leave their alcohol and politics at home. We will supply a BBQ and soft drinks as well as family-friendly music in the evening. Some vegan food will be provided, however we do recommend that people bring their favorite vegan dish to share. Blankets and lawn chairs are recommended.

There’s already a Facebook page where crucial questions—like rosters, uniforms, and mascots—are being discussed.

My question: If the game is open to city union members, does that mean Portland cops, members of the Portland Police Association, will be participating, too? I didn’t see them on the distro list, but that could be … interesting.

  1. “leave their alcohol and politics at home”

Can’t wait for this to be scrupulously honored by all concerned!

  2. Graham, as someone who played AAA Baseball as well as earning a scholarship to Boston College for an ice hockey and baseball scholarship, I can assure you that at least most of us know how “softball works.”
I guess you are thinking about the leagues you are used to. You know the ones with overweight, unathletic, bloated, old white meathead types drinking Bud and sucking.
Not this time. Sorry. I bet there’s some NASCAR on for you though.
Oh, and “Drunk and Write” do your homework, your double posted statement makes you sound foolish, kiddo.

We have tricks up our sleeve. If bringing community together is something you have a problem with, stay in your little, closed worlds.

    Thanks.

  3. My read on this is that it’s not strictly vegan. The rangers wanted to BBQ and Occupy was all “ewww, meat” so the rangers were like “okay there will be some vegan food.”

I doubt any cops will be playing. I think this was a Ranger initiative. Rangers are way different from straight-up cops. They were way cooler during the encampment. Different bureaus, different attitudes. I’m definitely going to this game #BeerCozy
